England My England, Photo and Video Essay, 2018

Taking its title from the 1995 film, England, My England, about the life of composer Henry Purcell (through the eyes of a 1960s playwright) this photo and video essay follows a selection of young, male bands as they balance their daily lives with their aspirations of making a success of music. The work examines class, performances of masculinity and the political climate in England, 2018. Contemporary masculine identities are interrogated through a series of images, interviews and written essay.
